‘Natural forces within us are the true healers of disease’
Hippocrates

I feel it's this natural force that responds to Acupuncture.

How we heal after illness or injury is not a matter for science alone. Sometimes, It's a process of recognising that recovering from a physical ailment or an emotional trauma may depend on going "off-piste", by leaving the paths of familiar textbook solutions of Western Medicine in favour of something more unscripted and perhaps more effective.

Have you ever considered that Acupuncture may help you more than you think to combat acute and chronic disorders?

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a traditional therapeutic branch of Chinese Medicine, developed and practised in the far east for thousands of years. Chinese practitioners recognised the body’s natural energetic power to heal and accessed this innate remedy response via landmarks on the skin.

Is Acupuncture safe? â€‹â€‹

Acupuncture is a well researched, safe and minimally invasive therapy, recognised by the World Health Organisation (WHO), Macmillan Cancer Support, NHS Providers and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) as a clinically beneficial treatment method. Therefore, many patients are recommended acupuncture by their Doctor, Consultant or Midwife.

Very fine single-use sterile needles are inserted at a specific therapeutic acupuncture point, causing little to no discomfort, while sending enough of a signal to let the body know it needs to respond. The needle insertion stimulates the body’s nervous system, promoting circulation, healing and pain modulation, while helping to return the body to its natural homeostasis.

Can Acupuncture help me, because you are my last resort

This is a question I get asked all the time. My answer is; if you are struggling with a health-related issue, the chances are acupuncture may help you and can be safely combined with conventional treatments and prescription medication.

Is there any evidence of the efficacy of Acupuncture in the successful management and treatment of acute or chronic Symptoms of Disease?

Currently NICE and the NHS only recommends considering Acupuncture as a treatment option for:

  • Chronic long term Pain such as joint and muscle pain, jaw pain.

  • Symptoms and side effects of cancer treatment such as pain, feeling and being sick from chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy.

  • Feeling sick or being sick after surgery.

  • Chronic tension-type headaches such as Migraines.

  • Prostatis symptoms of pain due to the inflammatory nature of the disease.

  • Hiccups.

  • The use of Moxa in the effective turning of a breach birth baby.

NHS cites: 'The evidence on the effectiveness of Acupuncture compared with other treatments is unclear. Acupuncture is sometimes available on the NHS, most often from GP surgeries or physiotherapists although access is limited'.
